During the past week, Riot Games invited us to an exclusive virtual conference in which part of the world gamer press was present, as well as influencers and streamers. On the occasion, they gave us all the details of the new League of Legends Champion called Milio “The Gentle Flame” or La Flame Gentil in Spanish, which as many will know is the first male support enchanter in the video game. New character that was presented by its own creators, the developers Myles Salholm in charge of the design, Elyse Lemoine of the narrative, Nancy Kim of the art and Lexi Gao who led the project as Chief Producer.
During the conference we were also able to talk with them and ask them some questions to find out more about the development of the new Champion of the popular MOBA. To begin with, we want to leave you with the “La Llama Gentil” Champion Theme, which was released a couple of days ago, where you can also see some of the concept art of the new League of Legends Champion.
Origen de Milio
According to what we were told, Milio is a support enchanter that brings mechanics back to the basics and greatly increases the strength of his allies and allows them to play aggressively. Between his healing, movement speed, and interrupt ability, Milio should feel familiar to charming players as he maintains his own Champion identity.
Milio comes from a man from Ixtal, which, as can be seen from the appearance of the character and from the funds that are given in the art presented in, for example, his splash, we can see that he takes inspiration from some ancient Latin American region, such as that of the Incas. . In his official bio, the new champion is defined as a good-hearted young man who mastered the axiom of fire from a very young age, discovering something completely new: comforting fire.
“With his newfound power, Milio plans to help his family escape exile by joining the Yun Tal… just like his grandmother once did. After traveling through the jungles of Ixtal to the capital of Ixaocan, Milio now prepares to face the Vidalion and join the Yun Tal, unaware of the challenges (and dangers) that await him.
Skills
Among Milio’s different abilities are first his Passive called “Fired Up” (something like “Fired” in Spanish), with which he enchants allies when touched, causing his next damage to deal a burst of additional damage and burn the target. aim.
There is also his Q called “Ultra Mega Fire Kick” (something like Mega Ultra Fire Kick), with which Milio kicks a ball that knocks down an enemy. Ball that shoots up on hit and falls towards the enemy, damaging and slowing enemies in the area upon impact.
The W is called “Cozy Campfire”, which creates an empowerment zone that heals allies and increases attack range to those inside. The zone follows the ally closest to the cast point.
His E is called “Warm Hugs”, where Milio throws a shield at an ally, temporarily increasing their movement speed.
And finally, Milio’s R is called “Breath of Life”, which unleashes a wave of calming flames that can heal and remove crowd control effects from allies within range.
Questions to developers
Among the main concerns that the international press gave to the creators of Milio, during this virtual “Round Table”, he was immediately asked about the popular culture references that were used for its design, being the one that crossed his mind of many of those present the film Enchantment of Disney.
Question that was answered by Elyse from the point of view of the narrative, who told us that while it was being developed, Emilio’s appearance was definitely inspired by various children’s audiovisual works such as Encanto itself, Coco, Pokémon or Avatar: The Last Airbender. Something that Nancy Kim, in charge of the character’s art, complements by saying that in addition to all those movies and series and how it feels at first glance, the design was greatly inspired by Latin America.
And about its mechanics, the Head of Development, Lexi Gao, was asked if they think that being a quite friendly Champion and that seems accessible to many players, if it could be a support that begins to be used by casual League players of Legends. Something that Lexi found interesting, commenting that they see the “popularity” of the characters in different ways, first as those who are played to test the new champion that looks interesting and who find their new “main” in them, something that definitely It will happen with Milio as it is easy to pick up and play, with quite familiar support enchanter features.
Also, we asked Myles Salholm if the comparison that the League of Legends community immediately made, calling Milio “the new Lulu” since at first glance he is just as elusive, also benefiting the team instead of using his abilities in the same. Comparison that the designer indicates that despite the fact that both are protectors, it could be misapplied since Milio will generate a great change in the game, “pushing the limits” thanks to his ability to protect more than one target with his E, besides that his ability to defend his allies is different.
Milio will arrive in League of Legends on March 22, 2023, via the game’s patch 13.6.
