The fact that it is worth stopping in Luxembourg to refuel on your way south is almost inscribed in the 10 Commandments. That kite now also applies to EV drivers. Because Shell Recharge has decided to significantly reduce the price you pay per kWh throughout the country. Both at the fast charging stations (DC) and at the AC charging stations.
Thank you, Luxembourg
Shell’s “stunt” is the result of a decision taken by the Luxembourg government. It has decided to give a discount on the energy price at public EV charging points until the end of 2023. The consequences of that decision are already visible. For example, Shell is proud to announce that it will lower the price of all its Shell Recharge points to 30 euro cents per kWh. To give you an idea, in Belgium Fastned proudly announced that it is lowering the prices at the fast charging stations to 69 euro cents per kWh. In other words: in Luxembourg you can quickly charge half as cheaply!
What does that mean in the language of money? Well, if we take an electric car that consumes around 20 kWh/100 km on the highway, then you end up with a price of 6 euros per 100 km range after refueling in Luxembourg. To match that, you already have to get a very economical diesel car out of the closet!
