MOSCOW – Group Russian mercenaries , Wagner Group , created an advertisement on the website Pornhub, inviting users of the popular pornography site to join the “world’s coolest private army.” The private military company recently expanded its recruiting efforts as it fights to capture Donbass’ main city.
Spotted by a Russian Telegram user earlier this week, the ad features a woman licking a lollipop suggestively as a female voice invites viewers to sign up for Wagner. The ad is reportedly only viewable by those accessing the site from Russia.
“We are the coolest private army in the world. We recruit fighters from all regions of Russia. Don’t go – work for PMC Wagner,” the Russian-language advert reads, before the phone number appears on the screen.
Asked about the promo video, Wagner Group boss Evgeny Prigozhin confirmed the advert was genuine.
“Advertising PMC Wagner on porn sites is a very good idea of our marketing,” he was quoted as saying by his press service.
“I totally agree with them, and this ad says: ‘Go to war on the Wagner PMC, stop f**king off.’ Who disagrees with this argument?” he said.
While it’s not clear how long the advert lasted, Pornhub said it had removed it on Wednesday, telling US-based news outlet Newsweek that it violated the company’s policy against politically related ads.
In addition to his ad campaign on the world’s largest porn site, Wagner has expanded his recruiting efforts in other ways in recent weeks, announcing the creation of 42 new registration centers across Russia earlier this month.
