JAKARTA – Black Sea or commonly known as the Euxine Sea is an inland sea located between the southeastern tip of Europe and Asia Minor Anatolia. Later, the Black Sea became widely discussed after the crash of the drone United States of America in the region.
The US accuses Russia of being behind the downing of the MQ-9 drone. Meanwhile, Moscow itself denies it. They say their Su-27 fighter jet did not make any contact and suspect the US drone crashed due to a sharp maneuver on its own.
In its development, the Black Sea has been known to many people because of its unique name. However, it should be noted that the assumption that the Black Sea is a black sea is not quite right.
Of the many versions circulating, there is one of the most popular theories that many believe. In this case, the embedding of the name of the Black Sea is based on showing its location which is difficult for sailors to navigate.
Besides that. Another theory says the origin of the Black Sea’s name is based on storms during winter that make the sea water in the area appear black. In the end, the sailors then called it the Black Sea.
Besides that, then where is the actual location of the Black Sea and which country is its territory in?
Quoting the NationsOnline page, Wednesday (15/3/2023), there are around six countries that have coastlines on the Black Sea. They are Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia, Bulgaria and Romania.
On paper, the six countries share the Black Sea militarily. However, four of them (Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania and Ukraine) have relatively small navies.
So it is not uncommon to see the notion that the Black Sea is a de facto maritime condominium between Russia and Turkey.
