MOSCOW – Russia and China is developing cooperation, including on the military route. However, according to the President Vladimir Putin the cooperation is “not a military alliance”.
“This is completely untrue,” the president said in an interview on the Rossiya-24 TV channel, when asked whether cooperation between Moscow and Beijing poses a threat to the West.
“We did not make a military alliance with China. Yes, we also cooperate on the military-technical cooperation line, we do not hide it, but it is transparent, there are no secrets there,” Putin said, as quoted by TASS, Sunday (26/3) /2023).
According to him, Moscow is also developing military cooperation with Beijing, including joint exercises.
“Not only with China, but also with other countries. We are even continuing now, despite the developments in Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson. We are still continuing; everything is transparent, but this is not a military alliance,” Putin continued.
Putin also stated that Russia does not allow excessive militarization of the economy. “We are building our economy in such a way that we don’t allow excessive militarization,” he explained.
“As for all our plans for (development of) civil engineering, health care, education, infrastructure development, we are not cutting anything. There isn’t any! And they (the West) have to cut (spending),” Putin said.
Putin noted that the West will increase weapons production. “I think that if the United States will go from 15,000 (munitions) this year to 42,000 (munitions) next year, for other countries it will be even more difficult,” Putin said.
However, he noted that each Western country has its own rules, its own plans for the development of the armed forces, national economy, infrastructure, education and health care.
