Press secretary Thijs Slegers of PSV has died at the age of 46 from the consequences of leukemia. Slegers announced in early February that he had been told by the doctors that they could no longer help him. The former sports journalist then called on everyone to become a blood and stem cell donor, which resulted in thousands of new donors.
“With sadness, PSV took note of the death of colleague Thijs Slegers on Monday morning,” says the website of the Eindhoven football club. “He died after an unfair battle against his debilitating illness. He was 46 years old.”
