TIMELINE – Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir again opened his voice about canceling the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia. The statement was broadcast live via the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube account.
During the question and answer session, Erick Thohir was asked about the flower bouquets that flooded the GBK Arena. Erick considered that the wreaths that flooded the PSSI office were a form of appreciation.
Erick Thohir, who is currently Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), also stated that he had received many bouquets of flowers when removing the board of directors of PT Garuda Indonesia in 2019.
“Regarding the flower bouquets, when I was cleaning, Garuda also sent a bouquet of flowers, the context is part of appreciation,” said Erick at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Friday (31/3/2023).

However, Erick then mentioned teamwork to make a big event a success. Allegedly, Erick felt that he did not receive support from several parties at the U-20 World Cup event in Indonesia because there were several groups that refused the participation of the Israeli national team.
“But right, the success of a big event or a big organization is not due to individual work, namely because of a joint teamwork,” he said firmly.
“I don’t think we can make claims, ‘oh this success is due to points’, this is all teamwork,” he said.
Reporting from BolaSport.com, wreaths filled the PSSI office yard at the GBK Arena, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Thursday (30/3/2023).
The senders conveyed various messages, ranging from support for Erick Thohir and PSSI, to expressions of disappointment after FIFA revoked Indonesia’s status as the organizer of the U-20 World Cup.
