Prime Video is showing that Amazon does not tremble when it comes to opening the checkbook and paying high budgets for its series and movies. The platform needs content powerful original to compete with Netflix and company.
If last year the most expensive series in history on Prime Video, Los Anillos de Poder, premiered, this 2023 we will have the arrival of the program that occupies second place in that ranking: Citadel.
The action thriller starring Richard Madden, Stanley Tucci y Priyanka Chopra the next one opens 28th of April in the catalog of the Amazon streaming platform, after its first season was a nonsense in certain aspects.
The series saw its production turn upside down when a large part of the team left Citadel due to “creative differences” with the russo brothers, producers of the program. This included the showrunner of the series, Josh Appelbaum and its director Brian Kirk.
In Prime Video they trust the success of Citadel
Even though Citadel’s reshoots and delays have added some $75 million to the first season’s hefty production budget, placing it above 225 million dollarson Prime Video they have chosen to renew the series for a new batch of episodes more than a month after its premiere.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the renewal is almost done, though there are no signatures on the deal yet. The Russo brothers are also expected to direct more than one episode of Citadel season 2.
Spy thrillers work quite well in the catalog from Amazon’s platform, so Citadel has a lot of potential to become one of Prime Video’s flagships.
The original content of a streaming platform is its greatest treasure, as demonstrated by services such as HBO Max or Netflix. Prime Video has its own workhorses, like The Boys, but it does well to bolster its catalog with series like Citadel.
