TEHERAN – President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi on Friday (3/3/2023) blamed a wave of poisoning of hundreds of schoolgirls across the country Iran on Tehran’s enemies. Raisi made a similar attitude in previous cases.
So far, the poison attack on hundreds of schoolgirls in more than 30 schools located in four cities started in November in the holy city of Qom, Iran. This condition has prompted some parents to take their children out of school.
Iran’s health minister says hundreds of girls in different schools have suffered and some politicians suggest they are being targeted by religious groups opposed to girls’ education.
Raisi, addressed a crowd in southern Iran in a speech broadcast live on state television. He firmly blamed Iran’s enemies for the poisoning.
“This is a security project to cause chaos in the country, where the enemy is trying to instill fear and insecurity among parents and students,” he said, as quoted by Arab News.
He did not say who the enemies were, although Iran’s leaders usually point the finger at the United States and Israel.
Separately, a senior Iranian official said a fuel tanker found next to a school on the outskirts of Tehran and which was also spotted in two other cities may have been involved in the poisoning.
“The authorities seized the tanker and arrested the driver,” Reza Karimi Saleh, deputy governor of the suburb of Pardis, told the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
