The question often reaches us: “How come you see a Porsche Taycan on every corner of the street these days?” Although slightly exaggerated, we cannot deny that the Taycan has proven to be a success with the (successful) businessman. However, how popular is the Tayan worldwide for Porsche? Well, smaller than you might think.
King SUV also at Porsche
Let’s get straight to the point, of the 309,844 Porsches delivered worldwide in 2022, more than half were SUVs. With King Cayenne leading the way (95,604) closely followed by Macan (86,724). Icon 911 completes the top three with 40,410 units delivered. Although only half as popular as any SUV from Porsche, the 911 is therefore more popular than the electric Taycan. It settles in place four with 34,801 pieces.
Even more interesting? The Panamera (with plug-in engines) is only marginally less popular than the Taycan in 2022 with 34,142 units. Do you really want a rare Porsche? Then it is best to tap a Cayman / Boxster on the head. Combined, these account for barely 18,203 deliveries in 2022 worldwide. Anyone who thought that Europe is the largest market for Porsche is also out for the trouble. China leads the way (93,286 cars), followed by North America (79,260 cars). In Europe, 62,685 brand new Porsches were delivered last year. Fun fact: Almost half of these were delivered in Germany.
A Taycan on every street corner? Maybe. In percentage terms, however, you should still encounter a 911 more often!
