Kulon Progo Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Muharomah Fajarini issued an apology for the mistake his members made regarding the viral video covering the statue of the Virgin Mary using a tarpaulin.
“We apologize for our members who were wrong in writing the narrative and we have received orders from the Regional Police Chief (DIY) that there are no mass organizations that disturb security and peace. If there are mass organizations that disturb security, comfort, peace, especially in the Kulon Progo area, we will take action. ,” said the Kulon Progo Police Chief AKBP Muharomah Fajarini, when providing clarification.
In the viral video, it is narrated that the closing of the statue was due to pressure from mass organizations.
The Lendah Police in their narration explained that there were mass organizations who felt that the existence of the statue could disturb the solemnity of Muslims who were fasting during Ramadan.

Fajarini clarified that the closure was an initiative of the prayer house owner because the permits were in the process of being arranged.
And the building that was just built last December 2022 is still in the process of being completed.
“Therefore, the owner who happens to be domiciled in Jakarta told his younger sibling (manager of the prayer house) temporarily in the prayer house because there is a statue of the Virgin Mary, temporarily covered using a tarpaulin. The initiative to cover the statue with the tarpaulin is purely from the owner of the prayer house “And the one who did the closing was from the family represented by his younger sibling,” he said.
Previously, a post on social media stated that the closure on Wednesday (22/3) was carried out after the action of a mass organization which expressed discomfort over the existence of the statue.
The mass organization stated that the existence of the statue disturbs Muslims who carry out worship at the Al-Barokah Mosque ahead of Ramadan 2023.

It was also stated that the police, namely the Head of Binmas together with 5 members of the Lendah Police, Kulon Progo, took part in securing the installation of the cover for the statue of the Virgin Mary.
