Although in recent years it was the Nintendo Switch that dominated the Japanese market, both in software and hardware sales, Playstation 5 however remains a solid presence in the rising sun region. So much so that despite the decrease in global sales due to the few units available in the last two years, it would seem that the console is performing better than its predecessors.
As revealed on Twitter and David Gibsonsenior analyst at MST Financial, la PS5 has sold over 3 million units since launch in Japan. It reached this milestone in just 121 weeks, much faster than the PS3 at 125 weeks and PS4 at 131 weeks. Earlier this year, Sony confirmed that the The console’s global supply shortage was easing and that it would now be much easier to find at retail than it was when it launched in late 2020. The PS5 has outsold the Switch in Japan for a number of consecutive weeks, and it did so last week too, outselling 78,000 units over the course of the week, compared to over 66,000 units for the Switch. The data in question are visible in the tweet below, in yellow we have the Switch and in blue the PS5.
We also remind you that recently the Playstation 5 received the update to version 7.0 it brings Sony console discord but also the variable refresh rate support for 1440p. Where you can enjoy smoother visual performance when using a VRR-compatible HDMI 2.1 display with a resolution of 1440p. Keep following us for more information on the gaming world!
