Denpasar Sound – PSSI together with 18 League 1 clubs have agreed on a change in the format for next season’s League 1 competition.
This decision was taken at an Indonesian football workshop which was held in Surabaya, last Saturday (4/3/2023).
As is well known, PSSI under skipper Erick Thohir did invite League 1 and 2 clubs to hold discussions.
Some of the points resulting from the discussion were the change in the name of the competition, which was originally Liga 1 and Liga 2 to be changed to Liga Indonesia and Liga Nusantara.

In addition to changing the name of the competition, the format of the competition has also changed. League 1 clubs are considered to have agreed to use a full competition format with play-offs featuring the top four teams competing in the grand final round.
“League 1 proposes a slight change (in the competition format) so that rankings 1-4 have a play-off. This is an extraordinary breakthrough and I accept it,” said Erick Thohir, General Chair of PSSI, quoted from YouTube PSSI.
The regulation regarding foreign player quota has also changed, to 5+1. Which follows the leagues in southeast Asia.
“Also yesterday it was proposed in League 1, you want the rules for foreign players to be equal to the leagues in Southeast Asia, where 5 + 1 (which consists of) five foreign players plus one Asian,” said Erick Thohir.
5 players coming from outside southeast Asia and one from southeast asia. For naturalized players, each club is only allowed to recruit one player.

“Well, yesterday we wanted 1 Southeast Asian, 5 non-Southeast Asian, go ahead. However, PSSI takes a position, if it can and should be able to, only one naturalized player. If not, when will the Indonesian players play,” concluded Erick. (Rizal/*)
