There are many expectations around Super Mario Bros. The Movie, an animated film that will arrive very soon in movie theaters. Of course, the elephant in the room are the voice actors who give life to the protagonists, since a considerable sector of the community is skeptical.
It is no secret to anyone that much of the criticism regarding the cast of voices revolves around Chris Pratt and his role as Mario. After the premiere of the first promotional trailers, criticism began to arise and reached a point where fans requested that Nintendo change the actor.
Chris Pratt: If someone came along and messed up with Mario, I would be very angry too
During a recent chat with TheGamer, Chris Pratt and Charlie Day discussed the fan reception. The Star Lord actor confessed that he did not expect that the voice of the protagonist would be a big problem and a controversial topic among the fans. However, he confesses that he understands that the fans are worried and the expectation.
“It puzzled me a bit. People are sensitive to this. And it should be, because this is great intellectual property. It is part of all our childhoods. If someone comes along and messes up with Mario, I would be very angry too. I’m grateful to be part of the team that was able to collaborate and work on this project, and I’m proud to say that we didn’t screw it up,” said Chris Pratt.

Charlie Day added to the conversation, commenting that he understands that die-hard fans have a hard time getting used to the voice change; at the end of the day, they’ve been hearing these characters in games for many years. However, he is optimistic and believes that the audience will change their minds for the better after they see Super Mario Bros. The Movie.
“People grow with the games and how the characters sound. I don’t think they were referencing the old cartoons or the old movie. In games, you have a certain thing that you are used to hearing. So if you hear something different, you have to adjust for a second,” said Charlie Day.
