The National Cycle Motorcycle Accessories Association against the trade in motorcycles of illicit origin
March 10, 2023
On the eve of the opening of the World and National Motocross Championships, Confindustria ANCMA (National Association of Cycle Motorcycle Accessories) returns to turn the spotlight on phenomenon of the sale of motocross bikes of illicit origin.
In 2021, an awareness campaign had already been launched by the association, where fans of studded wheels were urged to pay close attention faced with suspicious and disproportionate discounts, attractive offers promoted on the web and new vehicles sold below cost. The market for used motorcycles, especially those that are not registered and with plugs, represents a real business for those subjects who derive profit from this illegal activity.
In a press release also signed by GASGAS, Honda RedMoto, Husqvarna Motorcycles, KTM, Kawasaki and Yamaha, ANCMA underlines the fraudulent mechanism that would be hidden behind easy savings offers proposed by some dishonest sellers, or triangulations probably implemented by unscrupulous operators to evade VAT by circumventing European legislation. A criminal scaffolding that, only last year, brought the arrest and conviction of three criminals following an investigation conducted by the Guardia di Finanza.
The message of the association of motorcycle manufacturers and distributors is aimed at informing and safeguarding users above all on the risks and legal consequences deriving from the purchase of motorcycles in the context of opaque and criminal systems, which fuel tax fraud and unfair competition. Hence ANCMA’s invitation to knobby wheel lovers to contact us only to the network of official dealers present in the area, “where – continues the press release – seriousness, transparency and professionalism can be found”.
Our Andrea Perfetti had talked about the parallel market involving motocross bikes some time ago in this article. Nothing has changed compared to ten years ago, therefore, fraud and the trade in stolen motorcycles continue to persist. Be careful!
