Bad news comes to us from Japan, as it has just been revealed that Dragon Quest’s chief executive producer, Ryutaro Ichimura, has decided to leave Square Enix in a surprise announcement this Friday.
Ichimura says goodbye to Square Enix
As you probably know, Ichimura was one of the main people in charge of any project related to Dragon Quest and was working on the next installment of the franchise. However, on March 31, he surprised the community with an unexpected announcement.
The Japanese made the decision to part ways with Square Enix, so he wanted to share a few words of thanks and used his official Twitter account to post his statement along with a special photo.
Here you can see it:
This is a sudden report, but as of March 31st, I have retired from Square Enix.
I have a lot of thoughts, so it’s going to be a long time, so please take a look at the attached memo.
Thank you very much to all the staff who worked with us and all the users!#square #graduation pic.twitter.com/OQEthv83UC— Ryutaro Ichimura (@RyutaroIchimura) March 31, 2023

As you could see, the producer did not miss the opportunity to thank his entire team and the fans for all this time working with the saga. However, he gave the reason for making this move:
“I started to count how many more games I will be able to do in my life. We have to carefully consider every title we make. Once I can restart and reflect, I would like to leave this blessed environment and explore what can be done if I dare to enter a higher risk one,” said the Japanese.
