Olga and her husband leave Antigua in good spirits for the next checkpoint in Panama City. They soon catch up with Hugo Kennis and Eva Cleven. Olga shows her most fanatical side. She wants to hide from the others so they don’t catch the same bus. But that plan failed. And so Olga and Frank are on the bus with Hugo Kennis, Eva Cleven, Bastiaan Ragas and Sem Ragas.
When transferring at a Central American bus station, team Olga chooses a different bus than the other teams. “We can track them… but if we’re not sure, we shouldn’t do it,” says Olga.
As she and Frank settle into the bus, they see another team, consisting of Howard Komproe and Dre Urhahn, who also want to come along. But the bus is already leaving, so Olga is delighted. Until the bus driver still stops to let the two in. “Oh, he will stop,” says Olga, disappointed. “Ah, God glowing. They’re coming.”
In the evening Olga and Frank look for shelter again. They have a room for 13 euros. “Fantastic,” says the sporty Netherlands in Movement star. Frank also discovers that hot water flows from the shower. Heavenly.
The next morning, Olga gets emotional on the bus. “They played music on the bus with a harmonica. My children’s father also played harmonica. I thought about that. I would never have made such a beautiful trip with him. I am so happy with you that we can do this together ’ she says as she fills up. “With you I can be completely myself. I can just be who I am. That realization came in like that, I was moved by it,” says Olga afterwards.
But it’s not going well for the couple. During the journey to the border crossing between Costa Rica and Panama, the bus goes off the road. “I’m shaking,” Olga yells. Full of adrenaline, she explains what happened. “We come around the bend and there is a truck in the middle of the road with a breakdown. The bus could no longer brake and fortunately it did not veer to the left, because then we would have had a head-on collision. But it crashed into the verge and we are now completely crooked. I’m still shaking.” Fortunately no one was injured. “The fear is in my body.”
The two have a head start until the accident, but a little later Hugo and Eva pass by with another bus. They see what’s going on. “That whole bus has gone off the road,” says Eva. They see Olga and Frank standing outside. “They’re in complete shock.”
Frank remains calm. “I can’t help it either,” he says. Olga has even more admiration for her husband. “That’s a quality of yours. If something happens, you can immediately switch the switch. You always remain so calm.”
They don’t have long to think about it. With a detour they are sent to the end point. It’s not good for the couple either. “God glowing. Still the other way,” Olga says as she runs to the checkpoint. Because they had to make a detour at the last minute, they just don’t make it to arrive first. Olga is very disappointed. “That’s not fun anymore.” Still, she is happy and seals their second place with a kiss.
