What if Dracula was your boss? That is what the film Renfield will show us and that is why the actor Nicholas Hoult learned a lot about the mythical character.
Renfield starring Nicolas Cage, Nicholas Hoult and Awkwafina will be released very soon. The story will tell us how the servant of the evil and bloodthirsty Dracula is fed up with his boss. Since he doesn’t feel valued and has to do things he doesn’t like.

The leading actor reveals details of his preparation for the character.
Nicholas Hoult defined Renfield this way in a recent interview with SR:
“So the Renfield that we’ve seen in, you know, the Bram Stoker novels and earlier movies, he’s been living in his boss’s shadow in this very toxic Devil Wears Prada-esque relationship. ) for a while, and then through the circumstances of this movie, he begins to realize that’s not what he wanted in life, and he was somehow tricked and trapped in this relationship. And he begins to find his voice and ability to finally become a hero himself.”
Nicolas Cage is Dracula in Renfield
As a young man, Nicholas Hoult had only seen Bram Stoker’s Dracula, where Gary Oldman played the Count, and Hotel Transylvania.
“I came back to see them and study them, and particularly Dwight Frye’s performance, I guess. Trying to steal a few things from him when possible, particularly that laugh he brought. I do the best I can. I’ve gone back and read the book again too, just to see if there’s anything in there. But like I said, we’re joining Renfield at a very different point in his journey at the beginning of this movie.”
“But the laughter, it would just come back and I would hear a Dwight Frye audio. A couple of times I took bits of the dialect from the book, or from that iteration of the movie, and tried to weave that into this. But then again, it’s very different, because our screenwriter Ryan Ridley is writing in a more modern tone and voice. So, he is a modern version of a monster”.
“And the concept behind eating insects, and this obviously goes back to the idea that that’s what gives him: consuming life forces is what gives him power. So that’s what gives you the upper hand when you’re caught in moments of danger. While he has to protect Dracula, he eats a bug and gets that little bit of extra juice to fight with.” Nicholas Hoult concluded.
Renfield will be released on April 14, 2023.
