Talk about Doom is to make it from one of the most legendary first person shooter sagas. It was in 1993 when John Romero and his talented team at id Software created the original game, and to date his latest installment is 2020’s Doom Eternal.
We can’t wait to see the Slayer one more time (although his smaller version will be coming very soon). As has happened to other sagas, Doom also underwent a transformation 7 years ago.
After a series of continuation installments with the original Doom, id Software opted for an FPS of pure terror with Doom 3. Even though it’s a great game, some fans were disappointed with it.

DOOM Eternal – Tráiler Xbox Series X
The studio was clear that Doom 4 had to go back to the roots of the saga… but, years before releasing the wonderful Doom reboot in 2016, id Software worked on an alternative version.
We have all seen some image or video of the canceled Doom 4. However, now we can say that it already has its own trailermade by a fan who has used images leaked by VideoGameArch.
This was Doom 4 before its cancellation
So far we can get an idea of what this Doom 4 was like. Although the terror of Doom 3 disappointed some fans, the studio wanted to offer something different from what we saw in the 90s.
This time, id Software would take the horror concept of Doom 3 and join it to what, at that time, was taking the industry by storm: first person action shooters.
Doom was already an action FPS, but in a different tone from what sagas like Call of Duty or Battlefield achieved in the 2000s. Yes, Doom 4 was a Call of Duty with demons.
In the Crispies channel we can see an official trailer for Doom 4which uses the images leaked by VideoGameArch (what can you see in this tweet) to generate a gift for all fans.

DOOM 4 Trailer (2012 Concept)
If we take a look at the trailer, the truth is that Doom 4 is more like FEAR than Call of Duty itself. This fourth installment was going to take place on Earth, in the midst of a demonic invasion (as we would see years later in Doom Eternal).
In the video we can see demons already known to Doom fans, but also a series of nightmarish creatures and horrifying monsters. There is no doubt that Doom 4 was going to be scary.
In that sense, it seems that Doom 4 I would try to please all the fans: Those who wanted wild action would have it, but I would also go for first-person horror à la Alien.
Crazy about shooters in Evercade. Planes to the fullest in the Chocheluismos!
Something that id Software would keep for Doom (2016) were brutal executionswhich the Slayer unleashes when enemies are on their last legs (and which provide health and ammo).
Would you have liked to try this Doom 4? Do you think it would have been better than the Bethesda reboot we played in 2016? We doubt it, since Doom (2016) is an excellent first-person shooter, which honors the first of the saga. And Doom Eternal, even more.
