Kylian Mbappé, the new captain of the French football team, understands the disappointment of his teammate Antoine Griezmann. Star player Mbappé (24) was preferred by national coach Didier Deschamps to the experienced Griezmann (32) as the successor to keeper Hugo Lloris, who ended his international career and was the captain in the past period.
“I spoke to Antoine. He was disappointed and frankly that is very understandable. In his situation I would have had the same reaction. He is perhaps the most important player of the Didier Deschamps era,” said Mbappé a day before the game with Orange.
“Antoine is appreciated and loved by the whole group, it would be a shame not to take advantage of his experience. We will go hand in hand to help this French team win. I want to be a captain committed to giving everyone the best What kind of captain someone is depends on his personality.”
Deschamps’ decision would have gone down badly with Griezmann and the French media have been reporting for days about the riot within the French camp.
According to Deschamps, there is little dissatisfaction with Griezmann anymore and he has seen him “beautiful and radiant” since the start of the international match period.
France is the first opponent of Orange in the European Championship qualifying series on Friday evening. The kick-off in Paris is at 8:45 p.m.
