What about Netflix and Marvel? The latest streaming news is very positive for all lovers of superheroes on the screen.
Netflix has announced a bombshell with Marvel. The Spider-Man trilogy directed by Sam Raimi returns to the streaming platform next April. At least in the United States. The North American service will add the beloved spider movie saga to its content starting April 1. The trilogy starred Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, and James Franco as Harry Osborn. Often described as the best superhero movies ever made, the films were well received by audiences and critics.
The first installment was released in 2002 and in it Spider-Man faced a ruthless Green Goblin played by Willem Defoe. Now we can enjoy it on Netflix thanks to the new union with Sony Pictures and Marvel Entertainment. Raimi’s Spider-Man grossed over $825 million at the box office. A huge and unexpected success for a comic book movie. It was also nominated for two Academy Awards, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.
A successful superhero saga before the UCM
Sony Pictures
Given the success, Sony Pictures greenlit a sequel that hit theaters in 2004. In Spider-Man 2, Parker had to face off against Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, a scientist turned powerful villain. The Marvel movie that we will see on Netflix did not surpass its predecessor at the box office, but it still became the second highest-grossing film of the year. It also took home an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, plus two nominations for Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing.
In the latest installment of the Marvel trilogy, Spider-Man faced three enemies at the same time: the New Goblin, Sandman, and Venom. The film was the highest grossing of the trilogy, with 895 million dollars, but also the most criticized by fans and critics. Now, People Can Rewatch Sam Raimi’s Entire Spider-Man Trilogy On Netflix.
