Marc Marquez cost caro l’incidente a Portimao
After Pol Espargarò and Enea Bastianini, Marc Marquez will also miss the next GP at Termas de Rio Hondo, in Argentina, scheduled for Sunday 2 April. After the accident that also led to the fall of Miguel Oliveira, the Spanish centaur suffered a compound fracture of the first metacarpal of his right thumb.
“After returning to Spain for further checks, Marc Marquez was diagnosed with a compound intra-articular fracture of the base of the first metacarpal of the thumb of his right hand. The number 93 rider immediately underwent surgery at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, with Dr. Ignacio Roger de Ona at the head of a team made up of Dr. Samuel Antuna and Andrea Garcia Villanueva. The surgery consisted of a closure of the fracture and its internal fixation with two screws.Marc Marquez and the Repsol Team Honda have mutually agreed that the eight-times world champion will miss the next Grand Prix to concentrate fully on recovery and arrive at the next rounds in the best possible condition,” said Honda.
It remains to be seen what will happen to the double long lap penalty inflicted on the Spaniard after the Portimao accident. This penalty would have been applied with exclusive validity only for the GP of Argentina.
