Marc Marquez misses the GP of Argentina. After the surgery to repair the first broken metacarpal in his right hand, Marc Marquez will not go to South America for the second round of the 2023 MotoGP World Championship.
Upon returning to Spain for further tests, Marc Marquez was diagnosed with one compound fracture joint of the base of the first metacarpal of the thumb of the right hand.
Number 93 was immediately operated at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid with Dr. Ignacio Roger de Oña leading a team made up of Dr. Samuel Antuña and Dr. Andrea Garcia Villanueva.
The intervention consisted of a fracture reduction and internal fixation of the same with two screws and passed without incident.
Marc Marquez and Repsol Honda Team have chosen that the eight-times World Champion skips the next round of the World Championship in order to concentrate fully on recovery and arrive at the next rounds in the best possible condition.
For those who have asked: the penalty of two Long lap penalties, imposed in the 93rd minute for the accident which also involved Oliveira and Martin, remains. If he doesn’t serve it in Argentina, he will do it in Texas or as soon as he gets back. The penalty is to be served in the Sunday race.
