The French rider is angry and worried about what happened in the first short race on Saturday: “The first lap seemed like the last!”
March 25, 2023
Fabio Quartararo he’s not happy, he can’t be happy after a race in which he finished outside the points. Despite this, he found a positive side: the race pace: tomorrow he hopes to do much better. But the focus of his Saturday words has a precise objective: la Sprint.
The French didn’t like the short race, indeed he is very concerned about safety. He also threw an idea-provocation: “At that time better to do two races of 25 laps!“.
Here are the words of the 2021 world champion.
On his Sprint…
“The start was good but afterwards I had a problem with the launch control with second gear at the start and I lost a lot of positions. Then the contact with Joan, I was last, I did what I could do, the positive thing, the only , was that the pace wasn’t bad. I was last, then I was tenth but with the riders in front of me… I had Alex Marquez ahead and I was faster but overtaking him was difficult, with a race of only 12 laps it was a disaster”
You have the race pace. Are the difficulties on the flying lap?
“The flying lap we need to improve on many aspects, both on the bike and mentally. I don’t want to finish sixth, but at the moment we’re 3-4 tenths from the bikes in front”
Do you like Sprint racing?
“No, not at all! Surely there will be a big accident, it’s a jungle, we’re not in cars that you can touch without problems. I tried to do my best. 20 sprint races to go. Let’s see, you can be aggressive. Today went well with only Marini and Bastianini crashing but there will certainly be more crashes in the future. We don’t have the power, who decides? They”
Still on the Sprint race…
“It’s the same for everyone, I mean, I don’t want to complain but it’s a safety issue. It’s not a problem to touch, in the last lap with Alex we touched 3-4 times, it’s the races! But in the first laps it was insane. In the end it’s normal for riders but we’re on bikes that we can’t control sometimes, that’s what I think”
Are you surprised at the aggressiveness of some drivers?
“I’m not surprised. It’s 12 laps. It would be better to do two 25-lap races: physically it would be tough, but in 25 laps you have a little more time. There, if you lose three positions, you’re… exactly (fucked, ed.). I hope it’s better, I try to learn. I think for safety it’s better to do 25 laps twice than 12 laps once.”
Do you think tomorrow will be another race?
“I don’t think so because Pecco, Martin, the riders who are on the podium today are also very quick on their pace over long distances. But I think it will be a little better in the first laps. You have to be aggressive, but today it felt like the first lap was the last lap. It’s normal because you don’t want to lose positions. In the future, everyone will have to fight like this. That’s what I think and I think it’s quite dangerous.”
