The 108th episode of #atuttogas, online on Moto.it and on the main podcast platforms starting at 9 on Sunday 2 April, explains in detail how the weekend has changed for the riders after the introduction of the Sprint race. And why has it become so difficult to overcome?
March 31, 2023
Luca Marini he conquered everyone in the press room: his conferences after practice or after the race are always very crowded, regardless of the result. Because hearing Luca speak is a pleasure for an enthusiast as well as an insider: his explanations are clear, precious and precise. He is therefore the right man to tell how the driver’s job has changed with the introduction of the Sprint race.
“Friday has become one of the key moments of the weekend: in 2022 FP3 was dedicated to getting into Q2, while in FP1, FP2 and FP4 you worked for the race. Now that’s not the case anymore. With the Sprint the level rises and it will be more and more complicated. Sunday is similar to 2022, but you have much less time to work. Nice to dedicate time to enthusiasts, but you have to do everything faster. We have to get used to it.”
Luke confirms that it becomes more complicated to deal with the technicians to prepare the bike: it’s not a small matter. Just as the issue of safety is important. “Since last year, contacts and overtaking have been more closely watched: I don’t think there are any more improprieties than in the past, there’s just more attention paid to certain episodes”.
As for the difficulty in overtaking, Marini explains the technical reasons in detail in the podcast: “Aerodynamics matter, but it’s not just for that”.
All the evaluations on the new MotoGP format, on the tyres, on the aerodynamics, on what changes being in the slipstream or in front of another rider in the 108th episode of #atuttogas.
