Only 18 out of 22 riders will take part in the GP of Argentina that takes place this weekend. The injured Pol Espargaro (Friday), Enea Bastianini (Saturday) and Marc Marquez (Sunday) are joined by Miguel Oliveira.
The Portuguese rider was involved in the accident caused by Marquez in the long race. Jorge Martin was also hurt, breaking a finger.
Marquez underwent surgery on his right hand in the night between Sunday and Monday and the announcement of the forfait arrived on Monday morning. A few hours later that of also arrived Miguel Oliveira: “He won’t participate in the Argentine GP. It’s certainly not the type of news we like to give, but the main thing is that Miguel will be back in full form soon.” This was the announcement made on social media by the RNF Aprilia team.
In short, almost 20% of the riders will not take part in the second GP of the season: the Sprint has only a part to do with it. The argument was analyzed by Zam before the Portuguese’s resignation was known. Zam’s video commentary can be found here.
