Francis Bagnaia looks a bit tired on video: may be the time zone. For the rest, the world champion is calm and determined as always.
“I’m curious to see how it goes here. We hadn’t been too competitive in 2022, but we’ve grown a lot since then. On this track, Ducati has never won, something has always been missing, but I think this time we will be able to fight for it. There are many unknown factors: we have never tested and for Friday the weather predicts rain all day, the track could be very dirty”.
“My first thought is for my rivals who aren’t on the track, as far as the standings are concerned. Right now we have to think about who’s there. Vinales and Bezzecchi are close and we’ve seen how easy it is to lose points. It’s true, Marquez and Bastianini are out, but there’s certainly no point in thinking about the championship after just one race. Let’s see what happens here, in Austin we’ll perhaps have clearer ideas.”
“After Portimao there was a lot of talk about penalties: for our part, we have to ask for more clarity, the feeling is that it’s difficult for us to understand exactly what the limits are, when we incur a penalty or not.”
A crash in the Sprint and a podium in the race: Marco Bezzecchi he confirms himself as a top-level driver, but he needs to improve in terms of consistency.
“In the Sprint I made a mistake, but I recovered well. We have to continue like Sunday, even if I don’t feel ready yet to be able to get on the podium in every GP, I’m still in the learning phase. We need to keep up this energy and this fun – my only focus and thought is to try and take my first win this season. I think it can be done if we continue to work as we are doing, we are competitive”.
“As regards the rules, it is very difficult to codify overtaking, contacts: there are too many different situations. As Pecco says, there should be more clarity, but it is true that the work of the commissioners is complicated. In SC we are trying to find the way for everything to work at its best”.
