Ing. Magherini, what engine capacity and performance can you get with this V2?
“We can’t say what is the maximum displacement that this engine can reach, but it can certainly be increased, as well as with performance. Even in the mechanics we have used solutions taken from sports engines and transferred here with driveability objectives. For example, the straight inlet ducts have helped us to improve turbulence at low revs with the aim of polluting emissions and driving regularity. The cam followers enable high valve accelerations even in a small space and to have minimal crossover between intake and exhaust.”
In the test the twin-cylinder showed an excellent propensity to rev high, with a very tasty progression, a sign of little inertia of the moving masses. How did you get this character?
“The inertia of the rotating masses is 50% lower than in the V85. This is mainly achieved thanks to the presence of the counter-rotating shaft which has made it possible to limit the size and weight of the drive shaft. Then obviously we used the latest generation materials and coatings that allow very low friction even with very high hardness.”
