The gaming industry is in mourning. This morning the death of Mike Berlyn, a creative who worked in the video game industry and who is best known for being the creator of Bubsy and one of the co-founders of the studio now known as Bend Studio, was reported dead.
Berlyn’s passing was made public by Mike Mika, a developer working for Digital Eclipse. So far, there aren’t many details about the death of the 73-year-old developer.
Mike Berlyn was best known for being the creator of Bubsy, a platformer series starring an anthropomorphic bobcat. It is worth mentioning that, despite being his creator, he only worked on 2 Bubsy installments: Bubsy from 1993 and Bubsy 3D. That being said, his involvement in the industry goes beyond that.
It turns out that Berlyn entered the video game industry in 1981 working for Oo-Topos. Later, he joined companies like Sentent Software, 989 Studios, Electronic Arts, and Activision to work on titles like Zork and Altered Destiny. Also, he was the co-founder of 2 companies. The first was Brainwave Creations, a studio that developed the Tass Times in Tone Town. On the other hand, in 1992 he founded Blank, Berlyn & Co., a studio that became Bend Studio, developer of Siphon Filter and Days Gone.
We at LEVEL UP mourn the passing of Mike Berlyn and wish him peace in his final rest. We also send our condolences and best wishes to the family and loved ones of the developer.
