Michael Dunlop and Hawk Racing together again: with the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade they will race the Tourist Trophy in the Superbike and Senior categories
March 3, 2023
He is the TT rider with the most Supersport victories – nine -, most recently last year leading to 21 his overall successes at the Tourist Trophy, shortening the distance that separates him from the absolute record of his uncle Joey Dunlop (26 triumphs) up to five lengths: let’s talk about Michael Dunlop which for 2023 returns together with the Team Hawk Racing to run with the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade the Superbike and the Senior in the edition that will start on May 29th.
The last time Dunlop rode a Honda in Superbike and Senior was in 2013when he was part of the factory team Honda TT Legendsa participation that earned him the victory in the Superbike and a second place in the Senior behind the legendary – and in that case teammate – John McGuinness. Michael then raced on BMW and Suzuki with the Hawk Racing team with whom he scored a number of victories and podiums over the years. The Team’s move to Honda also coincides with the adoption of the bikes from the Casa dell’Ala also for the British Superbike Championshipabandoning the Suzuki GSX-R1000R with which they had raced in the last six years, with which the Dunlop-Hawk Racing duo had collected a victory at the TT right at the debut of the Hamamatsu bike on the Isle of Man, in 2017.
Dunlop will continue to race in Superstock with his MD Racing Team, trying to get even closer to uncle Joey Dunlop’s record, but to get over it – barring sensational twists – at least two editions of the TT will be needed.
