Meta has shared with its employees the roadmap for its devices in the field of virtual and augmented reality. There are many devices in sight, which of course confirms this commitment to a metaverse that represents the future for the company. These are the upcoming releases:
Ray-Ban Stories. The first product to hit the market will be the successor glasses to the Ray-Ban Stories that the firm introduced in September 2021. The new model is being developed in collaboration with Luxottica, Ray-Ban’s parent company.
Meta Quest 3. The next virtual reality glasses will stand out for having half the thickness of the current ones without losing power. As in the Quest Pro there will be front cameras that will allow the mixed reality experience to be possible. Of course: they will be somewhat more expensive than the current model of 450 euros, and they will be available before the end of this year.
Ventura, affordable virtual reality. That’s the code name for other VR headsets the company claims to sell “at the most attractive price in the consumer VR market.” They will arrive in 2024, and this reduction in cost will undoubtedly also be noticeable in the device’s features.
More Ray Ban Stories. In 2025, another iteration of this product will be launched that will have a small screen called “viewfinder” designed to display messages, translate messages in real time or scan QR codes. There will also be gestural control through a band that will provide a “neural interface” and even the possibility of writing messages with a virtual keyboard. There is even data from a theoretical smart watch that can be used in conjunction with this model of glasses.
Augmented reality will take. The most ambitious product of all will also be the one that will test our patience the most. Meta’s augmented reality glasses won’t arrive until (at the earliest) 2027. With them it will be possible to display superimposed avatars in the real world, and they are expected to command a hefty price tag. A first prototype for employees is expected by 2024.
