We have an answer! After being arrested for assault, Marvel Studios talks about Jonathan Majors. The situation is very tricky.
Marvel has announced a response to the Jonathan Majors case. During a chat with the D23: Inside Disneypodcast published in March, ahead of the MCU actor’s arrest for alleged assault, the studio’s VP of Production and Development Stephen Broussard expressed concern that Kang the Conqueror will appear in most of the upcoming projects in the Multiverse Saga.
The podcast took a look back at the Infinity Saga, specifically at how the path of the story wasn’t necessarily plotted until closer to the end of Marvel’s Phase 3comparing it to how fans now expect the MCU to have the villainous Jonathan Majors in everything now that his role is established.
The response of the UCM executive
Kang the Conqueror is the present and the future of the UCM
“When we look back at the end of the Infinity Saga, when Thanos was the big bad guy, we didn’t really know where the first three phases were going, at least for some Marvel fans like myself who may not be very familiar with it. comics,” said the executive. “Now when Kevin announced The Kang Dynasty it seems like you have to have the Jonathan Majors character in everything. So obviously it’s probably not there, but how do you balance creating a sort of Kang ending and not having him in every single project leading up to it?
Broussard recalled how Thanos was introduced in little bits as the Infinity Saga progressed, mentioning the Infinity Stones as the thread that connected all the movies. Even when Thanos wasn’t around.
“It’s a fair question, and with Thanos, it came up in small increments as we went along. And the presence of the Infinity Stones was felt in different movies, right? So you could argue that there was a common thread that led to Infinity War and Endgame, even in the movies where Thanos wasn’t there.”
So… It seems that one of Marvel’s solutions to the Jonathan Majors mess, and before a possible recast, is to considerably reduce the appearance of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU movies.
