Will Elizabeth Swann return in Pirates of the Caribbean 6? Her actress, Keira Knightley, has spoken about the potential return to the fantasy saga.
Keira Knightley has warned about Pirates of the Caribbean 6. The actress has considered the return of her character in a future sixth installment of the saga. She played Elizabeth Swann beginning in the 2003 film, The Curse of the Black Pearl. She starred in the next two sequels alongside Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, and in the movies her character broke the damsel-in-distress trope by becoming a capable pirate in her own right. The last time she was seen Elizabeth was in 2017’s The Revenge of Salazar, where she made a brief appearance. She has not been seen since for the franchise.
During a conversation granted to ET on the occasion of the premiere of his new film, The Boston Strangler, Keira Knightley was questioned about the possible return of Elizabeth Swann to the Disney franchise in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. The question arose from recent comments by Jerry Bruckheimer about his desire to pick up the saga with Johnny Depp. She responded by asking, “What about Elizabeth Swann?” She then seemed glad to let the character of hers go, saying, “I mean, she went off really well. She set sail in brilliant style.” Does that close the door on the franchise?
What can we expect from the sixth film in the saga?
Since the franchise’s debut in 2003, the franchise has produced as many as five films. Although the budgets may be excessive, the film saga has proven to be profitable at the box office. Till the date, the films have grossed more than $4.5 billion worldwide, as well as generating abundant income from merchandising and characters like Jack Sparrow, who are now firmly entrenched in pop culture. We’ll see what ends up happening with Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and if Keira Knightley finally returns as Elizabeth Swann to fire her again.
