The details of the great turn of the actor Jon Bernthal in the role of The Punisher are already known. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has surprises in store.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is moving forward at full speed, already collecting five long phases full of stories and still has a lot to offer. The surprises in the franchise do not stop and the myriad of characters taken from the comics have not yet been fully used, not even in a greater part. However, there are many heroes and villains who, although they have already been used in the saga, are studying other ways to develop them. This is the case for example of The Punisher.

The antihero has had several opportunities to reach the screens. In 1989, Dolph Lundgren was the first to take up the mantle of Frank Castle for a film adaptation. Likewise, Thomas Jane did it in 2004 with a version that even had a sequel. However, the latter did not repeat the role, but it was Ray Stevenson who surprisingly took his place in 2008.
Great interpreters went through the face of the one who lost his family in the hands of the mafia and who is a great symbol of revenge in popular culture. His villains were also memorable. John Travolta he played the mythical Howard Saint and Dominic West completed the task in the two most recent feature films on the character.
However, little or nothing transcended the previous ones in terms of reception. The fan audience of comics and critics did not value his work very much. On the contrary, Jon Bernthal did manage to captivate the target audience by starring in The Punisher series of Netflix in 2017. The show was renewed for a second season in 2019 and the artist had important appearances in Daredevil, from the same platform.
However, due to distribution issues, Marvel canceled all productions with Netflix and moved completely to the Disney conglomerate. The dream of seeing Bernthal in the UCM vanished, until everything had light and hope.
confirmed returns
In 2021, rumors began about a possible return of the protagonists of the Netflix titles to action. Everything indicated that these would finally be part of the Cinematic Universe. It was fulfilled. Vincent D’onofrio was in Hawkeye and Charlie Cox appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In this way, everything thought was confirmed.
Later Kevin Feige would announce an even series Daredevil titled Born Again, which will be released in 2024. Now it is known that this will also be Jon Bernthal’s runway to the franchise in his return as Castle. Little by little everything is coming together.
“I think if there’s any diminution in that character, you’re doing the character, every iteration of the character, every previous comic, and all the amazing fans of the character a disservice,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter about deciding to remove it. “This character means a lot to people in the military. So, like I said before, it’s not about whether you do the character; it’s about whether you can get it right, and I’m only interested in getting it right,” she added.
This is in addition to the recent images of Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter, who would be working on projects to return as Jessica Jones y Luke Cagerespectively.
