“It’s perfect”, directors of Super Mario Bros. The Movie defend Chris Pratt and his interpretation of Mario
Because the video games in the franchise have very limited and simple stories, the creators had to figure out how to present an attractive plot. During the interview, Aaron Horvath explained that the film seeks to be a kind of “origin story” that tells how Mario became “Super Mario.”
“It’s a bit of an origin story (…) At first, Mario and his brother Luigi are plumbers from Brooklyn, from a family of Italian immigrants. When you play, if you don’t give up, Mario will succeed. So we transferred the player experience with the game to a feature that the film will have, ”said the director.
It is no secret to anyone that the choice of Chris Pratt as Mario is controversial, as many fans consider that he lacks the charisma of Charles Martinet. Despite the criticism, those responsible for the film defend the actor.

When the first official trailer for the feature film was released, fans of the franchise expressed their disappointment and petitioned Nintendo to change the voice of the protagonist. Amid the controversy, Chris Meledandri, producer and executive manager of Illumination, defended the actor.
