LONDON – A problem mathematics which looks simple is successful in making a headache netizen . The reason is, this math problem will get two different answers, depending on the method used.
The answer to this 6÷2(1+2) math problem may seem so simple. But it’s not that easy Ferguso! For those who are lovers of brain teasers, the answers they find will be different when using the PEMDAS and BIDMAS methods.
Reporting from The Sun, Sunday (19/3/2023), PEMDAS is a more modern equation. It stands for parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, then subtraction.
Using this method, you must add 1 to 2, resulting in 3.
The equation then becomes 6 ÷ 2 (3) and the parenthesis in the number 3 means that it must be multiplied by what is in front of it.
The result is 3 x 3 = 9.
But this answer is disputed by those who use the old method, BIDMAS. BIDMAS itself stands for brackets, index, division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction.
Brain teaser lovers using this method solve 1+2, make 3, then do 2×3, make 6.
To solve the problem, they do 6 ÷ 6, the answer becomes 1.
