First Lazio, now Inter: around the 26th day the clubs coached by Simone suffer a sudden involution. And the numbers prove it
It’s another bloody spring for Inzaghi. He almost doesn’t warn her, maybe this time also because it’s masked by a winter that couldn’t be colder. Will it be the air of Milan? No, because in Rome the script was the same. Simone’s teams start the championship discreetly and get excited at the end of the first round. Then, around the 26th day, they recorded a clear decline. Just when the stakes become very high and every slip can cost dearly.
PERIOD NO
—
In the last four league games, Lautaro and his teammates have picked up just 3 points, the result of the 2-0 win at San Siro against Lecce. They lost against Bologna, Spezia and Juventus, but consoled themselves with qualification for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The objective to be achieved at all costs is in the light of the sun: to finish the season in the top four and confirm himself in the elite of European football. For now, Inzaghi is enjoying third position, but the (only) three points lead over fifth place opens the door to all kinds of scenarios.
ONE YEAR AGO
—
Last year, the Scudetto fight with Milan was decided right in this period. After twenty-five rounds, Inter were -1 behind the Rossoneri and the calendar winked at Simone: in the next five games they would meet Sassuolo, Genoa, Salernitana, Turin and Fiorentina. His Inter, however, only won against Campania and, on matchday 30, they were -6 behind Pioli’s team. The hopes of a comeback were still very strong due to the match to be recovered against Bologna. Radu’s mistake at Dall’Ara weighed like a ton, but the Nerazzurri’s problems started much further away.
WITH LAZIO
—
Among the coaches of the teams fighting to qualify for the Champions League – including Juventus and Atalanta -, Inzaghi is the one with the lowest average points in the last thirteen league days: 22.2, taking into account the last five seasons. Allegri and Pioli are “specialists” of finals with a bang, while Simone has been struggling since his days in Lazio: in the last three years with Lotito’s club, he has collected at least five knockouts from the 26th matchday onwards. The goals for the season were less ambitious than at present, but the results still left something to be desired. It’s called spring, but at home Inzaghi brings anything but roses and flowers…
