Water is a vital liquid and drinking it is a necessity for the human body to regulate our temperature, digest our food and stay hydrated; however, in these hot times, it will be more expensive to consume it.
The price of bottled water reported an annual rise of 10.2% last Februaryare highest annual increase in 20 yearssince July 2003 when its registration began, reveal the data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
WHERE IS BOTTLED WATER COST MORE EXPENSIVE?
Among the cities where the highest increases in the price of bottled water were reported last February are: Monterrey, in Nuevo León, with an annual increase of 16.3%; the city of Puebla15.2%; Guadalajara, Jalisco, 11.4%; the metropolitan area of the Mexico City, 8.5%; as well as the city of Queretaro with an increase of 8.9 percent.
Since last year, legislators from Nuevo León sued the Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco) for greater surveillance of the price of bottled waterbecause several businesses have made these products more expensive, due to the shortage of supply in that entity.
Staying hydrated is very important for health, especially in this hot season.
SOFT DRINKS ARE ALSO UP
One option to hydrate is soft drinks, although they are less healthy and more expensive.
The price of soft drinks reported an annual rise of 11.9% in Februarya rate similar to that of January, constituting the highest increase since December 2014, when it registered an increase of 15.4 percent.
Among the locations mentioned above, where the annual increase in the price of soft drinks was greater than that of bottled water, are the cities of Puebla y Guadalajarawith an increase of 15.6% and 14.8% respectively, while in Monterrey it was lower, with a rate of 13.5 percent.
In the cases of the Metropolitan Area of the Mexico City and the capital of Queretarothe annual increase in the price of soft drinks and bottled water was similar with increases of 8.2% and 8.6% respectively.
