Bayern Munich has fired trainer Julian Nagelsmann with immediate effect. This is reported by the generally well-established newspaper Bild. The club management of the German record champion is said to be dissatisfied with the performance on the field and sees the 35-year-old coach as the culprit. Thomas Tuchel is the favorite to succeed Nagelsmann, according to Bild.
Technical director Hasan Salihamidzic expressed his displeasure after the 2-1 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen last weekend. “This is unworthy of Bayern. I have rarely seen so little drive, mentality, fighting spirit and perseverance,” he grumbled. Bayern lost the lead in the Bundesliga to rival Borussia Dortmund due to the defeat against Leverkusen.
Nagelsmann was in his second season at Bayern. Last year he became champion with the team. The now 35-year-old German was the youngest trainer ever at the German top club.
Tuchel was without a club after being sacked from English club Chelsea in September. He won the Champions League in 2021 with the London club.
