What does Soy Leyenda 2 have to do with The Walking Dead? Well, much more than you think, and the end of one will mean the success of the other.
I am Legend 2 will succeed thanks to The Walking Dead. The sequel has been a long time coming, but it’s had to wait until now to really have a chance to make it big. At least, and as they believe from Screen Rant, due to the presence of the famous AMC series. Starring Will Smith in the role of Robert Neville, the first installment was released in December 2007 to incredible box office success. It grossed more than half a billion dollars during its run. However, the reviews were mixed, especially the end of the film, highly criticized for moving away from the original material, Richard Matheson’s novel of the same name. A novel published in 1954.

However, I Am Legend 2, starring Will Smith again alongside newcomer Michael B. Jordan, will pick up the alternate ending of the original novel. An ending that is only available on the DVD of the film. In the cinematic ending, Robert Neville sacrifices himself by blowing up his laboratory, at the time besieged by Darkseekers, so that two human companions can escape.. However, he survives the alternate ending of the original film and learns that the Darkseekers see him as a monster. Despite this innovative twist, however, the sequel still had to wait thanks to other zombie projects. This is the case of the aforementioned The Walking Dead.
The connection between the two franchises is evident
According to ScreenRant, I Am Legend 2 needed The Walking Dead to end due to similarities between the two works. Both are post-apocalyptic stories, with human survivors fighting against a world full of monsters. It’s inevitable that comparisons will be made between the sequel and the TV series. But if the sequel had been released during the heyday of Robert Kirkman’s comic book adaptation, it would have been a lot harder for the movie to stand out.
AMC
The original film was released just before the boom in zombie movies released in the wake of The Walking Dead, such as World War Z and Memoirs of a Teenage Zombie. If the sequel hadn’t waited more than a decade and a half to be released, then it would have come out in a much more saturated market. Therefore, if I Am Legend 2 had been launched while the AMC series was airing on television, it is very likely that the franchise would have been in trouble.
