After the series of the 60 meter hurdles at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Istanbul, Nadine Visser was satisfied with the results. Her name was on top with a time of 7.88. She concluded with confidence that the form is good and that there may be a third gold medal in a row.
“I actually wanted to be sharper in the first part of the race, but I noticed during the warm-up that it took some getting used to running so early,” she said after her heat in the series, which she easily won . “I had to pick myself up a bit to get a bit sharp. I’m glad I succeeded and I could just win the race. But it wasn’t really possible to go all out. really full house, you take more risk. Now was not the time for that.”
Visser is a two-time European champion in the 60 meter hurdles. She won gold in 2019 (Glasgow) and in Torun (2021). If she wins again in Istanbul, she will be level with Elly van Hulst, who won European indoor gold three times in her career in the 3000 meters. Nelli Cooman takes the crown with six gold medals in the 60 meters.
Visser doesn’t care too much about it. “I’m going to focus on the semi-finals first. The schedule for this tournament is crazy, but everyone suffers from that.”
Shortly before the tournament, the 28-year-old from North Holland indicated that physical fitness is at the top of the list this season. “Staying whole is the most important thing,” said Visser, who has been plagued by a tear in her hamstring for the past two years and has had to rehabilitate twice. It caused her to lack the top form required to go for a medal at the major championships.
“It’s not that I don’t feel aches anymore, because I’ve had them for years. And I’ve also found out that my hamstring is a weak spot that I will continue to feel every now and then. Fortunately, I’ve found tricks to deal with it to go.”
