SC Cambuur has booked an important victory in the fight against relegation from the Eredivisie. The club defeated Go Ahead Eagles 4-1 in front of their own audience.
Cambuur remains at the bottom of the ranking after the fourth league victory of this season, trailing FC Groningen by 1 point. Michael Breij gave the home club the lead in the 13th minute, after poor intervention by goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange of the visitors from Deventer.
Mats Deijl equalized in the 25th minute. He celebrated his goal in front of an empty stand, where fans of the visiting club normally sit. Mayor Sybrand Buma of Leeuwarden will not allow supporters of the opponents to come to Cambuur’s home matches for the time being. He took that measure after disturbances around the home game two weeks ago with sc Heerenveen.
Mimoun Mahi and Bjørn Johnsen largely secured Cambuur’s victory in the second half. Mahi made his first goal for Cambuur. FC Utrecht loaned him to the club from Leeuwarden in the second half of the season. Johnsen scored for the third league game in a row.
Navarone Foor determined the final score. The attacking midfielder was also at the basis of the 1-0 and 2-1. Shortly after his goal, Foor received a public exchange from his trainer Sjors Ultee.
