GAZA – Hamas condemning the right-wing Minister Israel Bezalel Smotrich for his call for the Palestinian city of Huwara in West Bank which was occupied was demolished and burned. Smotrich’s call also received criticism from the United States (US).
“His comments are an indication of the level of criminality and open incitement of the settler-militias to carry out more massacres against the Palestinian people under the official guise of the occupying fascist government,” said Hamas spokesman Abd Al-Latif Al-Qanua.

“The Palestinian people and revolutionary youth will fulfill this Zionist call with more unity and legitimate resistance to the occupation,” he continued, as quoted by the Middle East Monitor, Thursday (2/3/2023).
The spokesperson added that Smotrich’s call required urgent international intervention to curb extremism and violence and hold Israeli leaders to account.
Smotrich made genocidal comments after hundreds of Israeli settlers carried out a massive attack on Palestinians and their property in the town of Huwara on Sunday night. Dozens of houses and cars were burned and a 37 year old aid worker was killed.

Meanwhile, the US has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior officials in the occupied country to publicly condemn the statement made by Smotrich.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price said the comments made by the secretary were “irresponsible. They are disgusting. They are disgusting.” He pointed out that right-wing extremist statements constitute incitement to violence.
Smotrich heads the Religious Zionism party, which is a member of the coalition government led by Netanyahu. He said earlier on Wednesday that it was Israel’s duty to “wipe out” the city of Huwara, which is located in the occupied West Bank.
