JERUSALEM – Hamas condemn the restrictions imposed Israel on the congregation Palestine to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan. The condemnation was conveyed by Hamas spokesperson for Jerusalem Affairs, Mohammad Hamada.
“The restrictions announced by the Israeli occupation army, meaning that the entry of Palestinians of a certain age subject to security clearance, is a flagrant violation of their human right to freedom of worship,” Hamada said, as quoted by Middle East Monitor.
He said imposing such restrictions was seen as flagrant interference in the affairs of Islamic holy sites.
Hamada called on Palestinians to increase their presence at Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan and to defend it against Israeli army attacks.
The Israeli occupation authorities have announced a series of restrictions against Palestinians during the holy month of Ramadan with respect to entry to Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as with respect to the movement of Palestinians from the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
“Women of all ages, boys up to the age of 12, and men over the age of 55 will be allowed to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan without permission,” said the Coordinator of Local Government Activities, Major General Ghassan Alyan. “Israel will impose permits on men aged 45 to 55,” he added.
With respect to the Gaza Strip, according to the statement, Israel imposed “restricted quotas” for women aged 50 and over, and men aged 55 and over, from Sunday to Thursday, to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque.
