SuaraSumedang.id – Today’s Google Doodle celebrates the 169th birthday of an Indonesian female character, Raden Ayu Lasminingrat.
Lasminigrat is a Sundanese writer and scholar. She was a pioneer of women’s education in Indonesia and one who paved the way for future generations of Indonesian women.
Raden Ayu Lasminingrat was born on March 29, 1854 in Garut. She is the daughter of the couple Raden Ayu Ria and Raden Haji Muhamad Musa, a Sundanese prince and writer.
RA Lasminingrat continued his education at the European School in Sumedang, he had to be separated from his family and raised by his father’s friend, Levyson Norman.

Levyson Norman helped teach her Dutch and contributed to Lasminingrat becoming the first Indonesian woman who was fluent in writing and reading Dutch at her time.
Having become proficient in writing and speaking Dutch, Lasminigrat has aspirations of advancing equality for all Indonesian women.
Lasminingrat used her literacy skills to adapt fairy tales from Europe and translate them into Sundanese.
Under the tutelage of his father, he began educating Indonesian children in 1879. He read adaptation books aloud, and taught basic moral education and psychology.
He educates native Indonesian children and introduces them to European culture. He also translated books into Sundanese, namely Carita Erman, Warnasari volumes 1 and 2, which are widely known throughout Indonesia.

In 1907, Lasminingrat founded the Kautamaan Wives School. An open environment and learning area for women’s empowerment, reading, and writing.
This school grew by having 200 students and 5 classes and was recognized by the Dutch East Indies government in 1911.
In 1934, Sakola Kautamaan Istri continued to develop and expanded to other areas such as Garut Wetan, Cikajang, and Bayongbong.
Due to her enormous contribution to education in Indonesia, she became the first Indonesian female intellectual to dedicate her life to empowering Indonesian women.
