Two people who are still detained were arrested at the demonstration in Zuiderpark, where farmers and others demonstrated against the government. It concerns a shovel driver who broke through a police cordon and someone who was arrested for insult.
Two officers slightly injured
The shovel driver was arrested for vandalism and resisting arrest. The vehicle was seized. Two officers suffered minor injuries during the man’s arrest. Mayor Jan van Zanen of The Hague said earlier that the man must pay for the damage he has caused.
The driver will be brought before the examining magistrate tomorrow. Whether that also applies to the person who was arrested for insult or whether that person will be released today is not known.
Two climate protesters
Two climate protesters are also still in custody. They protested yesterday on the A12 highway with Extinction Rebellion. According to the police, one of them was guilty of insult, the other was arrested for obstruction and resisting.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte said this morning in the program WNL on Sunday about the approximately 700 climate activists who were arrested that it was their own fault. “It used to be that when the police said ‘get out of here’, you left,” said the prime minister. “Now they were also angry that the water cannon had been deployed. I would say: own fault, big bump.” The two demonstrators who were arrested in the Zuiderpark were not discussed.
