WASHINGTON – United States of America (US) announced it will supply a new arms aid package worth USD350 million (over IDR 5.3 trillion) to Ukraine . This is Washington’s 34th tranche of military aid to Kiev since August 2021.
The new arms package to be sent by the US includes ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), howitzers, Bradley fighting vehicles and other combat equipment.
“Today, pursuant to President (Joe) Biden’s delegation of authority, I authorized our 34th withdrawal of US arms and equipment to Ukraine worth USD350 million,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a press release, which was launched Tuesday ( 21/3/2023).
“This military aid package includes more ammunition for US-supplied HIMARS and howitzers Ukraine uses in self-defense, as well as ammunition for Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, HARM missiles, anti-tank guns, riverboats and other equipment,” Blinken said.
The US Department of Defense said in a separate press release that the new military aid package also includes high-velocity anti-radiation missiles, mortar systems and shells, grenade launchers and small arms, mine clearance equipment, heavy fuel tankers, vehicle maintenance equipment, laser rangefinders and thermal image system, and other items.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine, in what Moscow calls a special military operation, on February 24, 2022, Western countries have provided Kyiv with more than $100 billion in military, financial and humanitarian assistance.
In April 2022, Russia sent notes to NATO member states condemning their military aid to Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that pumping Ukraine with weapons does not contribute to the success of peace negotiations and will have a disastrous effect on the conflict.
