Football star Victoria Pelova has won her first trophy with Arsenal. The team of the Orange-international conquered the League Cup by beating Chelsea 3-1 in the final at the sold-out Selhurst Park in London. That position had already been reached at halftime.
Pelova, who exchanged Ajax for Arsenal at the beginning of January, came on the field after almost an hour of play. More than half an hour later she was able to celebrate with her new teammates. Arsenal won the League Cup for the sixth time, making them the most successful club in the English cup competition.
The injured Vivianne Miedema also participated in the lap of honor over the field afterwards. The top scorer of Arsenal and Orange is recovering from a serious knee injury, but came to encourage her teammates at the cup final.
On Instagram, she first shared an image that Arsenal had made with photos of all players who contributed to winning the League Cup, including Miedema. She then posted a picture of her left leg on the treatment table. “Priorities”, Miedema added. The striker is likely to miss next summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
In the English women’s league, the Super League, Arsenal are fourth behind Manchester United, Manchester City and defending champions Chelsea.
