It is sometimes said that the most difficult part of the electric transition is to make an affordable EV, but it seems at least as difficult to power the highest segments. For example, Rolls-Royce has only just completed its first EV, Bentley is still struggling with the launch date of their electric pioneer and Mercedes-Maybach has not yet gotten further than an S-Class plug-in with a pair of champagne cups in the back. However, that will change, and that change will happen within a good two weeks.
Gigantic, long-legged, electric luxury sloop
Mercedes-Maybach has released a teaser of its very first electric model, and it won’t just be an EQS. Instead, the craftsmen and women are the first to take care of the EQS SUV, and it could well get more than just those champagne cups and some extra chrome. For example, the Germans already stick the name EQS 680 SUV to the veiled model, and connoisseurs know that the figure for the regular EQS SUV only reaches 580. So you can count on this Maybach version to be the first EQS SUV with even more power, because AMG variants are not yet available.
In terms of appearance, we cannot yet deduce very much from the one photo that Mercedes-Maybach sticks at the top of the press release, but secretly we can already imagine something about it. For example, the Stuttgarters treated us to a Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept in 2021, and it was already leggy before we had ever seen a regular EQS SUV. The production model could therefore take many features from that concept car to the Shanghai Motor Show on April 17, where the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV will be unveiled. And that location is probably no coincidence either, because where do you think they would most look out for such a gigantic, long-legged, electric luxury sloop?
