The other side of the draw on the road to the Prague final is more “complicated”: Gent-West Ham and Az Alkmaar-Anderlecht
Lech Poznan-Fiorentina: it couldn’t have gone better. It cannot be said that Nyon’s urn and Wladimir Smicer’s hands have not been kind to Fiorentina. Of course, any evaluation is merely theoretical.
But it would have been difficult to pick a more approachable opponent (on paper) than the Polish team in the lot of participants in the quarterfinals (13-20 April) of the second edition of the Conference League. Moreover, with the advantage of being able to play the return match on April 20 at the Franchi. But good luck didn’t end there for Viola. Because in the theoretical semi-final (May 11-18) he would face the winner against the Swiss side Basel and the French side Nice, playing the first match at home.
OTHER SIDE
—
More complicated, on paper, is the other side of the draw on the road leading to the final in Prague (June 7, 9pm). The English side West Ham – Gianluca Scamacca’s team – will face the Belgians of Gent away and then meet who will have the upper hand between Az Alkmaar (who knocked out Lazio in the round of 16) and Anderlecht, probably the team with the best tradition in european cups. Albeit very remote.
